Week 6 Football Preview
Now that the website is completely up and Marin Sports Radio is underway, Steve and I will do more blogging. Our posts will include game previews, opinions, interviews, and a variety of ways to express our thoughts on Marin sports. If you ever have thoughts or comments about a post in my blog, feel free to email me or Steve. Stephen is working on allowing you to post comments directly to the site. We'd love to include your opinions on all of Marin sports. For now, here is the MCAL Football game by game Week 6 preview.
Friday, October 12th
Marin Catholic at Notre Dame Prep (Scottsdale, AZ)
We don't know much about Notre Dame Prep except that they aren't from South Bend. They are 5-1 so far, but their opponents' combined record is only 13-25. Marin Catholic is coming off a big win defeating previously unbeaten San Marin. This game is somewhat meaningless to the Wildcats, and they may succumb to the projected 91° Arizona evening sun. Projection: Notre Dame Prep 27, Marin Catholic 15.
Tamalpais at San Rafael
You're in trouble if you can't tackle an average MCAL running back. You are in even more trouble if you can't tackle San Rafael's running back Kenny Haynes. Haynes, who struggled finding holes to run through last Friday against Redwood, only managed one breakout run which ended up being the Bulldogs only touchdown. Expect San Rafael to put up a lot of points early and give valuable playing time to freshman QB Parker Shaw. Projection: San Rafael 38, Tamalpais 6.
Novato at Justin Siena
Just because these teams have a combined one loss doesn't mean it will be a close game. Justin-Siena's only opponent with a winning record was Berean Christian from the below par Bay Football League. The Braves' league wins include Tam, Terra Linda, and Drake by a single point (14-13) last week. Novato is the league's best team on both sides of the ball and special teams. Justin-Siena should be no problem for the Hornets. Projection: Novato 35, Justin-Siena 12.
Saturday, October 13th
Terra Linda at San Marin
Terra Linda continues to prove that their upset win over Marin Catholic was a fluke. The reeling Trojans hafve lost their last two games and are in the middle of playing their three toughest opponents of the season. Those include undefeated Novato last week (35-0 loss) and East Bay power Monte Vista next week. This is an excellent opportunity for San Marin to get back to their winning ways. Besides Novato, the Mustangs are the only other team in Marin who control their fate of winning the MCAL title. If the Mustangs win out, including a win over Novato in their final game, they would finish with the same league record as the HOrnets and would take the head-to-head tie breaker and league crown. Projection: San Marin 24, Terra Linda 13
Redwood at Drake
Listen to this game live at 2 PM at marinsportsradio.com/listenlive.
The Giants can take their record to .500 for the first time all season with a win over the Drake Pirates. While their title hopes seem out of reach, second place is still a possibility. THe Giants need to win both this week's and next week's games if they even want to be in position for second. Drake QB Cory Bostjancic will have trouble moving the ball against the stingy Giants' run defense. The Pirates might have trouble stopping Redwood's passing game, which is highlighted by senior wide receiver Alex Monetta, who has five TD catches in his last two games. Projection: Redwood 33, Drake 0.
Arthur's Video Game Reviews
This summer I got the chance to intern at the radio network, "Sports Byline USA." At the end of the summer I was asked to do EA Sports video game reviews and I gladly accepted. Here are the first two.
