Thanks for a great 2009 season!

Our Story

Two Redwood students started Marin Sports Radio in the summer of 2007. Their goal was to make sports in Marin more accesible through radio broadcasts and talk show podcasts.

Arthur Mansbach started the idea of Marin Sports Radio in the fall of 2006. At first, he only wanted to broadcast Redwood football games. Over time he opened up to broadcasting not only Redwood sports, but Marin sports.

Nothing happened until the summer of 2007. Arthur expressed his interest in radio broadcasting to Steve Siegel, one of his good friends. Arthur told him he needed an audio dude. Without much consideration, Steve said he'd help out.

The two pooled together all the audio equipment they had - some cheap computer microphones and headphones. After some research they bought a mixer, good microphone, and other minor audio supplies.

They would frequently brainstorm ideas during barbeques at Steve's house with other friends.

About a week later the first episode of Marin Sports Weekly came out. It was still summer and the fall high school sports seasons were a month away. They had plenty of time to find a way to broadcast games live. They continued to produce a weekly podcast, Marin Sports Weekly, which currently has 10 episodes.

Steve did some research on college radio stations and found a place that would let them broadcast live on the internet, 24/7. The cost was relatively cheap because they didn't need to buy a license to air music. Steve also designed a website. He re-designed it so many times that Arthur said he had web design ADD.

With help from the Redwood Pigskin Club and Coach Mike Durant, Marin Sports Radio broadcasted their first live game on Friday, September 14. The game featured Redwood vs. Novato.

The rest is pretty much history. Live broadcasts continue of the Redwood football games - see the upcoming schedule on the home page for future broadcasts. The broadcasts are professionally done, with pregame, halftime, and postgame shows along with a coach's interview.

The future looks bright for MSR. Without revealing all the secrets, they are interested in broadcasting more games and different schools.

Acknowledgements

Marin Sports Radio is deeply indebted to the Redwood Pigskin Club and Mike Durant, a coach of the Redwood varsity football team.

The two founders owe thanks to their parents, who have provided support, but more importantly, transportation.
